料理は人を幸せにする芸術。
(Cooking is the art of making people happy.)
While staying at the Amara Hotel in Cyprus, I got to enjoy two evenings at the famous Matsuhisa Limassol – and here’s why I’ll never forget them.
From the Ninth Floor Straight Into a Dining Experience
During our stay at the Amara Hotel, we had a two-story penthouse suite on the ninth floor. There’s a separate elevator right there that takes you directly down to the second floor – straight to Matsuhisa Limassol. As soon as the doors opened, we felt it: the stylish design, the laid-back music, and that special kind of atmosphere that pulls you in instantly.

Warm Welcome, the Japanese Way
You’re first greeted by friendly hosts who welcome you and guide you to your table. As you step into the main part of the restaurant, you’re met with a cheerful "Irasshaimase!" – the traditional Japanese greeting that makes every guest feel instantly seen. It’s a lovely ritual that sets the tone for the entire evening.
Cool Vibe with a Touch of Sophistication
The interior is elegant without trying too hard – featuring an open kitchen, high-quality furnishings, and warm, atmospheric lighting. One of the highlights is the large bar inside, which stands out visually and fits perfectly into the overall stylish concept. On weekends, a DJ plays relaxed beats inside, right by the exit to the outdoor terrace. That way, the music flows through both areas in just the right way – present, but never overpowering. Indoors is great – but outdoors feels even better.

Stylish Inside – Beautifully Relaxed Outside
There’s a large counter inside where you can watch the chefs prepare the freshest sushi and sashimi right in front of you – perfect for anyone who enjoys the energy of the kitchen.
Personally, I chose to sit outside, and it was just lovely. The vibe was easy-going, the service attentive, and everything about the evening felt calm and enjoyable. The outdoor bar was still closed during our Easter 2025 visit, but even so, sitting out there with music in the background and great food on the table was a wonderful experience.

Japanese-Peruvian Cuisine à la Nobu
The concept comes from world-renowned chef Nobu Matsuhisa, known for his unique blend of Japanese and Peruvian influences. And yes – the food was truly excellent. Each dish was beautifully plated and balanced in flavor. Whether it was sushi, sashimi, hot dishes or Teppanyaki grilled right in front of you – everything was fresh, thoughtful, and perfectly prepared. You can tell this kitchen runs on experience and high standards – no fuss, just clean, confident cooking.

Quality Comes at a Price
I have to say, some of the prices did surprise me. One single piece of salmon sashimi costs €12 – that’s quite a bit. But to be fair: it was some of the best I’ve ever had. Incredibly tender and full of flavor. The quality was outstanding – and I think it’s important to mention that honestly.
Attentive Service and Top-Notch Cocktails
The service was friendly, quick, and discreet. You feel well looked after without being hovered over. The cocktails also stood out – beautifully presented and with subtle, Asian-inspired flavors that paired perfectly with the food.
Be Sure to Book Ahead
Especially on weekends or during peak travel times, reservations are a must. This place is popular – and rightly so. Dropping in spontaneously? Risky.
My Takeaway: Two Evenings I’ll Remember
I had two beautiful evenings here – the kind you think back on with a smile. The food, the mood, the service – everything felt special. Matsuhisa Limassol isn’t a place for every night. It’s something for when you want to treat yourself. Also because of the prices. But maybe that’s exactly why it stays with you.
