Baked pasta - simple & delicious for the whole family

This simple and hearty oven-baked dish is perfect for the whole family.
Spaghetti or linguine are layered with a flavorful tomato sauce, bacon, cooked ham, and mushrooms, topped with cheese, and baked until golden brown. The sauce can be seasoned to taste and enhanced with fresh herbs. Served with a crisp salad, this dish is pure comfort food!

Ingredients
500gSpaghetti or linguine
250-300ggrated cheese for gratinating, according to preference, e.g. mozzarella
1600gpeeled tomatoes in their own juice, 2 tins of 800 g each, 1600 g in total
250gBacon
250gCooked ham
280g1 jar of sliced mushrooms
1large spring onion
4tbspsliced basil
1tbspOregano
Salt and pepper
Instructions
Preparation:Drain the mushrooms.Peel the onion and cut into small cubes.Cut the bacon and cooked ham into small pieces.
Prepare the Sauce:Fry the bacon in a large pan until it is crispy.Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent.
Pour in the peeled tomatoes with their juice and let simmer for about 5 minutes, then mash the tomato pieces slightly.
Stir in the chopped basil and oregano and mix well.
Add the cooked ham and sliced mushrooms and mix briefly.Adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.
Let the sauce simmer gently for at least an hour if time allows. Adjust seasoning with more basil, oregano, salt, and pepper if needed.
Shortly before the sauce is ready, preheat the oven to 180 °C (350 °F).
Cook pasta:Cook the spaghetti or linguine in plenty of salted water until very al dente, as they will continue to cook in the oven.
Layer the dish:Layer the tomato sauce and pasta alternately in the dish, finishing with a layer of sauce.
Sprinkle the grated cheese evenly over the top..
Gratinate:Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 20-30 minutes, until the cheese is golden and crispy.
Serve:Remove the baked pasta from the oven and let it rest for about 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to settle.
Serve hot.

Feel free to season the sauce to your taste and enhance it with fresh herbs – it should have a bold flavor.This recipe makes a generous portion and fills a whole baking dish – it can easily serve 6 people.However, my family enjoys big portions, so we usually consider it enough for 4.The nutritional information may vary depending on the ingredients used.By the way: the pasta tastes even better when reheated once it has cooled :-)
